Mediaite Summer 2010 Internship

Bio:

Founded by Dan Abrams, former General Manager of MSNBC, Mediate has -- in the short time since its July 2009 launch -- quickly grown into a network of four news blogs averaging 5 million unique users per month.

Our sites include:

*** Mediaite, covering the companies, personalities, and trend dominating both the mainstream and niche media worlds

*** Geekosystem, covering multiple aspects of geek culture, including science, the tech industry, video games, science fiction and fantasy, gadgets, and software/open-source

*** Styleite (coming mid-March 2010), covering both the aesthetics and economics of the global fashion business

*** SportsGrid (coming late March 2010), ranking and evaluating the performance of teams, coaches, and franchises across multiple sports

Additional Info:

To put it simply, our editorial interns spend most of their time writing. Every one of our editorial interns writes, sources their own stories, and receives bylines for pieces written. Our editors and reports work with interns to hone their reportorial skills, both for "traditional" stories and new-media focused journalism.

The primary qualification for this job is an obsessive enthusiasm for the culture pertaining to the site in which you're interested. If you are intimately familiar with the culture surrounding media (Mediaite), geekdom (Geekosystem), style/fashion (Styleite), or sports (SportsGrid), then this is the internship for you.

The secondary qualification is being able to write quickly and clearly, without grammatical or spelling issues, on topics that you yourself think up/discover through consuming media.

In addition, there are several qualifications which are preferred but by no means necessary:

*** Knowledge of blogging software/content management systems such as Movable Type, Joomla, and Wordpress
*** Knowledge of the major personalities and figures in the online geek-culture world
*** Experience with graphic design software such as the Adobe Creative Suite
*** Experience with video editing software such as iMovie and Final Cut
*** Knowledge of basic website frameworks such as HTML and CSS
